Artificial Grass Installation

At County Sports Surfaces we recommend that your County Artificial Grass is fitted by our fully trained team of professionals. However we recognize the need to save money if possible, so to that end we have drawn up some common questions and tried to answer them.

How much artificial grass do I need?

County Artificial grass comes in 2 metre or 4 metre wide roll and can be supplied in lengths to suit you.
It is important to measure accurately to work out the precise length and width of artificial grass required. For simple artificial grass shapes it is usually fairly simple to work out your requirements, but for more complex areas and shapes, it may be useful to work out your requirements on squared graph paper.

What sort of base do I require to install artificial grass?

County Artificial grass may be laid on a number of surfaces, but problems such as poor drainage cannot be overcome by simply covering them with artificial grass.

Most hard surfaces are suitable as a base for artificial grassf. If a new sub-surface is being created, a slight fall (1:200 is ideal). However paving slabs are not suitable as a base and should be removed or covered with sand. Unbound surfaces, such as stone is ideal for artificial grass and were the project being built from scratch, County Sports Surfaces would recommend this as a base.

Any unbound surface is suitable, however if the surface is rough, we would recommend that it be screeded with sand prior to laying. Natural surfaces such as existing lawn are satisfactory for laying artificial grass, if well drained. However these are not always a good idea in the long term as natural grass will die and root decay could cause an uneven surface. Therefore the removal of grass is our recommended option, especially if the soil is then covered with a layer of compacter grit sand.

How do I join my artificial grass together?

Edges of the County Artificial Grass should be trimmed carefully to remove any excess material. 
Then adjacent panels should be laid together ensuring that straight cut edges are butted closely together, checking that the pile of the grass is running in the same direction on both panels. The edges should then be folded back and seaming tape laid, plastic side down, centrally along the joint. Using a cartridge gun, adhesive should be applied to the top surface of the tape on either side of the joint in two 'worms'. Now fold the carpet back and apply weight or pressure for the curing time of the adhesive. Special seaming tape and adhesive cartridges may be ordered from our office.

What do I need to maintain my artificial grass?

County Artificial Grass  is low maintenance - however it isn't no maintenance. Simply remove debris - particularly leaves and pet droppings - in order to avoid moss growth.
This can be removed by sweeping or, in dry conditions, vacuuming is possible (however not on sand filled grass). If moss does form, it should be treated with a proprietary moss killer and swept thoroughly with a stiff brush. Odd weeds may seed themselves in the surface and these can be removed by hand or with a spot spray of general weedkiller.
